In 2018 we saw DreamHack expand their Dota 2 event circuit to the likes of India and this year, the country will see even more fantastic action with ESL One expanding their borders into India too. ESL One Mumbai has just been announced and the scale of the tournament is one which the country has never seen before.
ESL One Mumbai will see a huge event which will feature 12 teams from around the globe, fighting for a share of a $300,000 prize pool over its 3-day running period. 7 of the teams will be directly invited to the tournament while 4 will fight through regional qualifiers (North America, Europe, Southeast Asia and China), and 1 final team will come from within India itself – via a local qualifier. While no dates are set for the qualifiers as yet and no teams are announced at this moment in time, the event is sure to bring in a huge crowd and some of the best Dota 2 action for them.
The Group Stage of the event will kick off on April 16th 2019 and run through to April 18th before the playoffs, which will be played in front of a live audience of cheering fans at the NSCI Dome, will come at us from the 19th to 21st. These dates do have a down-side attached to them though as the AMD Sapphire Dota Pit Minor begins on April 22nd in Split, Croatia, meaning that a few teams may turn down invites due to the Dota 2 Pro Circuit schedule. That being said, not every squad will end up qualifying for the Minor and we’re sure to have some amazing teams head to Mumbai to show off their talent.
For the upcoming event in Mumbai, ESL have teamed up with NODWIN Gaming, an Indian esports organization, to bring some epic Dota 2 action to the country’s shores. NODWIN were involved in making DreamHack Mumbai occur and their growth can be seen in 2019 already. The company aims to promote and enhance esports throughout India and what better way than to join forces with ESL, the largest esports company on the planet.
Akshat Rathee, Managing Director at NODWIN Gaming had the following to say about the event,
“ESL One commands global reverence in the world of esports and for India to play host to this event is indeed a landmark for the country’s esports history. NODWIN Gaming has firsthand experience of the passion of the Indian Dota 2 community over multiple years and this is our gift to them – to come and meet the best Dota 2 gamers of the world at ESL One Mumbai 2019.”
The event will not only feature some fantastic Dota 2, but will also include a cosplay contest as well as many other activities such as player ‘meet-and-greets’. Tickets for ESL One Mumbai 2019 will go on sale from next week and you can find all the information on the different ticket tiers here.
